Does paying for MIA recovery return the lost loadout?
No. The official guide says it preserves Traits, but the Operator returns without gear and must be equipped again.
Operator progression
Understand which progress belongs to the player, the Operator and the shared inventory.
Updated

The Operators station manages your roster. The official guide lists two starting slots, with an additional starting slot for Vault Edition owners; progression can unlock another.
The chosen Operator stays assigned until dismissed. Changing the skin is not the same as replacing the character. You cannot assign the same Operator to two Active Duty slots at once.
The following distinctions matter when a station, Trait or other reward is unavailable.
Swipe sideways to see all columns.
| System | What it controls | Easy mistake to avoid |
|---|---|---|
| DMZ Player Level | Mode-wide progression, stations, recipes and rewards; published track reaches Level 70 | Multiplayer or Warzone XP does not raise this DMZ level |
| Operator Dog Tag level | That Active Duty Operator’s growth and Trait Points, reaching 18 points at Onyx III | A different Operator has its own ordinary progression |
| Shared inventory and Bank | Equipment, ingredients, resources and DMZ Cash across the roster | Switching Operator does not automatically equip it |
The trees are Warfighter, Scout and Survivalist. The official guide describes visible Major Traits and randomized Minor Traits revealed as their branches open.
Inspect the choices your Operator actually has. A complete build shown by another player is not proof that your random Minor Traits will match. Ordinary Trait points are limited, so you cannot select everything from all trees.
The published rule is that a selected Trait cannot be substituted. Read the next branch and the role you want before committing.
Each Operator grows separately, which allows different playstyles across the roster. For the next run, choose a role that fits the current task rather than expecting one universal best build.
An eliminated Operator becomes Missing in Action and cannot deploy again until recovered. The Operators station lets you pay from the DMZ Cash Bank to rescue it. More Trait Points mean a higher recovery cost.
Recovery keeps the Operator’s Traits but returns it without gear. Inspect and equip the Loadout before deploying again. Dismissing it and starting another Operator is the alternative described by the publisher, not a free recovery of the lost equipment.
At the published maximum of 18 Trait Points, an eligible Operator can Prestige when it is not MIA. The required gear and DMZ Cash are consumed, ordinary Traits reset, and a random permanent Prestige Trait is granted to that Operator.
Remove unrelated valuables before a loadout-sacrifice process. Read the exact Prestige requirement screen; this page does not recommend an automatic Prestige timing or promise a selectable permanent Trait.
Shared storage helps you equip another available Operator after a loss. It does not make the recovered Operator ready by itself. Check the Backpack, Plate Carrier, weapon and medical supplies in Ready Up.
